Little Hadham Parish Council News Seeing off the rat-runners The need to tackle rat-running vehicles through Bury Green and Westland Green received a positive reception when a petition was presented to Herts County Council’s transport panel. The petition was signed by 129 residents, an indication of how strongly people feel about the problem. Parish councillors Andy Morris and Geoff Williamson were given a three-minute slot to explain the dangers of rat-running vehicles trying to avoid hold-ups on the A120.
Pedestrians, horse-riders as well as other vehicles are put at risk because of speed, narrow roads and blind corners. Andy and Geoff ’s presentation was strongly supported by County councillor Mary Bayes. The Panel has undertaken to produce a report on the matter in January, including possible measures to reduce volume and speed of traffic. By-pass latest Following Herts County Council’s green light for the longer northern route for the Little Hadham bypass, the parish council was told that a detailed engineering and business case would be prepared for submission to the government next year. The parish council will urge the Environment Agency to move forward with proposals to include a flood alleviation scheme in the bypass plan. Road repairs The C15 (main road through the village from the lights towards Much Hadham) will shortly be patched and resurfaced. The parish council will monitor the work to ensure minimal disruption to bus services and access to the village hall. Little Hadham included in possible gypsy sites A report from East Herts Council (EHC) about potential sites for gypsies and travellers in East Herts was received too late to be considered at the October meeting. It will be discussed at the next meeting on November 5. Two areas of agricultural land in Little Hadham, both privately owned, are included in a list of potential sites in a report by consultants, commissioned by a consortium of five district councils, which indicates that 45 additional pitches are required across the five districts. The Little Hadham sites are west and east of Millfield Lane, close to the A120. EHC has stressed that the report was carried out to inform future planning decisions and it does not necessarily mean that potential sites will be allocated for traveller pitches. Twenty one possible sites were identified in north and east Herts. The report will be subject to a public consultation starting next year, followed by a decision likely to be in 2009.
