Family History 3 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Nice Site! thanks for providing a guestbook.

I have been tracing my family tree for some years now and have drawn a blank with an ancestor named William Thorogood (other spellings include Thorowgood, Thurgood Thoregood etc)He had two sons Henry and William in 1800 and 1803 both born in Ingatestone, but doesn't appear to come from that area. William's wife was Martha and the only William and Martha marriage I can find is in Much Hadham. She was called Martha Aymey and they were married on 20th March 1791.
Does anybody know of the Aymey or Thorogood family around that time?
Many Thanks
Ian.

Ian

I am not sure if we are going to be connected or not.

I have got an Elizabeth Thorogood as a daughter of Ephraim born in 1755.She was born in Little Hadham and had 8 brothers and sisters, one of whom was a William born 1751.Do you know who William's parents were, the one who married in 1791? If they were Ephraim and Sarah I can give you some info.

Helen

PS If you go onto www.familysearch.org you may be able to find out your William's parents

Hi Helen,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't know the parents of William Thorogood. familysearch only lists a William Thorogood marrying a Martha Aymey in Much Hadham (1791) Which is why I tried this site.
I think the William you mention born 1751 may be a bit early for my William....although I suppose anything is possible!
I think I should go to the Herts record office and look at the church registers.

Many thanks for your help.

Ian

Great to see the new forum being used. If you get any joy and you think it appropriate perhaps you might like to email me a short article for the History section of the website

Have you contacted Noel thurgood.
He currently lives in Plummers in the main street of Much Hadham.
The cottage known as Plummers was owned by my family from 1773 until 1809.

Hello Ian,
I too have been trying to trace my family tree, and it appears that my G
great, great Grandfather Joseph Marlborough married a Martha Thurgood
who I believe was born c1815 in Much Hadham and had a sister Mary born 1813.

Mary and Martha's parents were a Thomas and Alice Thurgood. I believe that Mary married a Richard Foster and moved to Eltham in Kent. Martha and Joseph lived in Edmonton. Martha died in 1854.

I don't know if this helps you in anyway, but if you have any information I would be very glad to hear back.
