Dear All, I was brought up in Much Hadham living for part of the time at the top of Malting Lane, opposite the old store and attendning the old Hertford Grammar School eventually obtaining a PhD as part of my career as an electronic engineer .
I have very occationally revisited the village and the thing that is most striking is the run down in commercial and even medical activity.
Apart from from a haberdashers, two grocery stores and the blacksmith as well as a doctors, there was even a gas works!
The village was much more self contained.
As for public transport there were two double decker bus's an hour with a conductor as well as a useful railway service.
Today everything seems to depend on the car.
A sad thing is the decrepid state of the war memorial.
I hope to attend the village fete soon.
Also the poverty which 60 or so years ago was so noticeable seems to be far less evident.
Regards, Aubrey Sandman
