Flooding in the Hadhams 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hi - I have bought May cottage in Hadham Ford - well in the process of buying ... and am researching my new village. I was surprised when info about being on the margins of a flood plain came up on the web? Can anyone tell me if floods happen there or near? Or any other useful info. Is the broadband width in the village good? I have already visited the Farmers Market and came home loaded with good things - loved Gabriel's honey. But would be grateful for any pointers. Thanks. Dee

Hello Dee,
I know that the Ford last flooded around 2000. If you contact the environment agency they can give you details of all the floodings and also let you know the likelihood of your property flooding. We live right by the Ford (since 2005) and it is usually dry, but you just never know! The Environment Agency decided against doing work as the flood risk only affects a few homes. They were considering offering grants for individuals to flood proof their homes, but nothing has come of this. There might also be some flood alleviation measures built in to the Little Hadham bypass which is up for consideration at the moment. Whoever the preivious owners had insurance with are required to continue that insurance (we're with the Halifax who are very reasonable).

Good luck and we'll see you around the village soon!

Kirsty
