Hello everyone, first let me say I enjoyed reading all the postings, hoping to find some of the family names connected to our family research, and thank you for the forum to reach people in the area or those interested.

From what I have learned our MEERES family goes back Joseph Meeres born 1720 in Sandon and marriage to Sarah PATMORE on 22 Jan 1759 in Much Hadham they had a family of 8 children Joseph 1760, William 1761, Anne 1765, Joseph 1765, John, 1767, Abraham 1769 and James 1771. All of the children were born or registered in Thundridge. Joseph's parents were John Mears & Elizabeth and not known if they were from the area.

The next generation Joseph MEERES born 1760-65 married Martha PETTS on 12 Nov 1789 in Holy Trinity, Bengoe. They had a family of 11 children Rev. Nathaniel 1790, William 1791, Sarah Milligain 1791, Charles 1792, Mary 1794, Dr. Thomas 1796, Benjamin 1799, Ann 1800, Mary 1802, Sarah 1806, Alfred 1807.
These children were born or registered in Ware, Thundridge, Broxbourne. After this it seem the family must have left Hertfordshire as the families are found throughout England.

I am hoping someone has seen traces of this family in the area or possibly know of some of their descendants.

I have only just come across this message board. I am descended from Dr Thomas Meeres. I have been tracing family history for about 15 years on and off. I had traced back as far as Joseph born in Sandon and his marriage to Sarah Patmore but I had never managed to find the marriage of Joseph to Martha - so that's one more little piece in the puzzle. The only other descendants of Dr Thomas Meeres that I know of are all from the same line as me - descended from his daughter Georgiana, so none of us are Meeres now!

Would be interested to hear more from Alan or John, or anyone else related to this Meeres family
