Hopley's, Much Hadham Open Garden

Air Ambulance Summer of Open Gardens announces flagship event

Hopleys Garden Centre near Much Hadham will host the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) Summer of Open Gardens flagship event this month (July).

Hopleys, in High Street, will open its five acre landscaped garden to visitors on Sunday 24th July between 12.30pm and 5pm to support the Charity’s new initiative.

The Summer of Open Gardens, which runs across Hertfordshire and Essex until the end of September, is being sponsored by Baby Bio®, which signed a one year deal with EHAAT earlier this year and pledged £3,000 to kick start the initiative.

Visitors can enjoy a stroll around the gardens, afternoon tea in Hopleys Café, listen to live music from a string quartet, grab some giveaways and browse plant stands, shop at the merchandise stall and take part in the Air Ambulance tombola. The Herts Air Ambulance may pay a visit giving visitors the chance to see the helicopter up close and meet the Air Crew.

Ken Crowther, who has presented BBC Essex’s Saturday gardening programme for nearly 30 years, will answer gardening questions from visitors with Anita Dent from Baby Bio®.

Jen Wall, Volunteer and Events Manager, said: “When we piloted the Summer of Open Gardens project in Hertfordshire last year we raised £6,000. This year, with the support of Hopleys Garden Centre and generous sponsorship from Baby Bio®, without whom we couldn’t have organised such a great summer of events, we hope to build on that figure, while offering visitors the chance to enjoy some wonderful gardens in the county.”

Catherine Dorman, Campaign Planner for Baby Bio® said: “Everyone enjoys seeing beautiful plants, patio containers and lush greenery in their gardens for as long as possible.  We hope by working with Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust people can learn more about feeding their plants so they get more out of their garden and help a very worthwhile charity along the way.”

Ken Crowther added: “The Essex & Herts Air Ambulance is not government funded so I’m keen to inspire as many gardeners as possible to get involved in this Summer of Open Gardens initiative and enjoy a day out in aid of this Charity.”

There is still time for people to register their gardens for the initiative, which runs across Hertfordshire and Essex until the end of September. Participants can register the date of their Open Garden event with the Charity and encourage their visitors to make a donation on the day.
